Canadian College Softball

Prospective Student Athletes
Prospective student athletes who wish to play fastpitch softball at a college or university in Canada are encouraged to do their homework and be proactive about their options.  They are also encouraged to begin exploring their options before they begin their final year of high school.

Visit each school's website for all information on programs, costs, application deadlines, residence options etc..

Make sure the schools you are interested in offer the academic programs you wish to pursue.

Visit the school team's wepage for information on recruiting, tryouts*, schedules and expectations.  *NOTE: some teams hold tryouts in the spring for the fall season while others hold them in August - either way you will be expected you to be ready to play the moment you get to school.

SCOUT YOURSELF - Most post secondary schools in Canada do not have the resources to scout players during their high school years (especially those athletes who do not live/play close to the college or university) so it's up to you to contact coaches - let them know who you are and that you are interested in their team - one effective tool is a recruitment video. * see below right.

Unlike in the US where student athletes can obtain entrance scholarships based on their athletic performance Canadian post secondary institutions are not permitted to offer similar opportunities. However, numerous scholarships are available to help with the costs of attending post secondary school. Research scholarships EARLY as many require references, essays and supporting documentation and apply for those that apply to you. The effort is worth the reward.

Keep practising.
